Home loans rate cut
 
Mumbai Dec. 15: Public sector banks on Monday announced that home loans up to Rs 5 lakhs would be given at a maximum interest rate of 8.5 per cent, while those between Rs 5-20 lakhs would be offered at a rate of 9.25 per cent.  The banks hope that this move would give a boost to the affordable housing segment. Maran may be pardoned
 
Chennai Dec. 15: The DMK high-level committee meeting on Tuesday morning is likely to ‘pardon’ Mr Dayanidhi Maran, the grand nephew of party president M. Karunanidhi. Sachin powers record comeback win 



Chennai Dec. 15: At 4 pm Sachin Tendulkar dabbed a sweep to the fine leg fence and punched the air in delight. The Indian middle order had done full justice to the wonderful innings Virender Sehwag (man of the match) had played on Sunday to begin the script for the famous six-wicket win over England in the first Test here on Monday.

India’s highest successful run chase at home was achieved with time to spare and every spectator left the MA Chidambaram Stadium happy and content. The unbeaten 103 by Tendulkar was his 41st Test century and his unbroken 163-run run (197 minutes, 42.5 overs) stand with Yuvraj Singh, who made 85, guided the team home from a difficult position. More... Source : Deccan

Bush shoe attacker ‘detested America’
 
Baghdad, Dec. 15: The Iraqi journalist who caused a furore when he hurled his shoes at visiting US President George W. Bush “detested America” and had been plotting such an attack for months, colleagues said.  Muntazer al-Zaidi, 28, was being hailed as a hero by some after his action against the US President who ordered the 2003 invasion of Iraq, and anti-US demonstrations were being staged in Baghdad and the holy Shia city of Najaf.  “This was a spontaneous action by an Iraqi citizen who was showing his dismay at seeing the President of the country which is occupying our nation,” said Liwaa Sumeissim from the anti-American Sadr movement. More... Source : Deccan

Indian Institute of Technology-Madras to get two research centres

CHENNAI: The Indian Institute of Technology-Madras will soon have two sponsored additions to its advanced manufacturing facility. They are a sheet metal research centre, supported by Japanese firm Amada, and a micro machining centre, supported by the Department of Science and Technology, M.S.
