MS browser glitch not fixed

San Fransisco, Dec. 16: Users of all current versions of Microsoft Corporations Internet Explorer browser might be vulnerable to having their computers hijacked because of a serious security hole in the software that had yet to be fixed on Monday. The flaw lets criminals commandeer victims’ machines merely by tricking them into visiting websites tainted with malicious programming code.

As many as 10,000 sites have been compromised since last week to exploit the browser flaw, according to antivirus software maker Trend Micro Inc. The sites are mostly Chinese and have been serving up programmes that steal passwords for computer games, which can be sold for money in the black market.

However, the hole is such that it could be “adopted by more financially motivated criminals for more serious mayhem — that’s a big fear right now,” Paul Ferguson, a Trend Micro security researcher, said on Monday. “Zero-day” vulnerabilities like this are security holes that haven’t been repaired by the software makers. Popular Telugu actress Bhargavi stabbed

Hyderabad, Dec. 16: Popular Telugu actress Bhargavi, 22, of Ashta Chamma fame was brutally murdered by her lover, Praveen Kumar, 32, alias Bujji, who later committed suicide. Police found eight stab wounds on Bhargavi's body, including one deep wound on the left side of the chest and another in the back.

She was found lying dead on a bed in her apartment in Nandi Nagar at Road No: 14 in Banjara Hills on Tuesday. Praveen, who had consumed cyanide mixed in a soft drink, was also lying dead near her.  ome chemical powder, a dagger and a soft drink bottle were found near them. Bhargavi had a shooting schedule in the morning and had called up one of the assistant directors and had told him that she would be ready in a few minutes. She also called up her mother from her mobile at 6 am and said she was going for the shooting.

Members of the film crew came to her residence to pick her up at 6.30 am. One crew member gave a missed call to her cell phone. Since there was no response to repeated calls, the director, Mr Ramakrishna, and the landlady's brother, Mr Madhu, forced open the door and found the duo lying dead. Satyam buys Maytas firms for $1.6 b; shareholders to block deal

Hyderabad/New Delhi, Dec. 16: Satyam Computer Services Ltd gave its investors a nasty jolt on Tuesday, acquiring Maytas Properties for $1.3 billion (Rs 6,228 crore) and taking a 51 per cent stake in Maytas Infra for $0.3 billion (Rs 1,437 crore). The deal means that Satyam’s 2.1-lakh shareholders will not get a slice of the Rs 8,392-crore reserves that the company held on September 31.

There were questions ab-out Satyam, India’s fourth largest tech firm, picking up infrastructure firms instead of tech firms. If it had to be infra firms, why Maytas, investors asked. Moreover, Satyam had grossly over-valued Maytas Infra. Analysts called the deal “unethical”. Both firms are promoted by the Satyam Computers’ promoters and headed by Satyam Computers chairman Ramalinga Raju’s son Teja Raju.

Maytas Properties is an unlisted company owned by Mr Ramalinga Raju’s family, his relatives and friends. The promoters have a 36 per cent share in Maytas Infra, which was listed last year. The Rajus and their associates stand to make nearly $1.48 billion (Rs 7,665  crore) from Tuesday’s deal.
